Christopher Bishop<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Technical Fellow, Microsoft Research AI for Science<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Chris Bishop is a Microsoft Technical Fellow and the founder of Microsoft Research AI for Science. He is also Honorary Professor of Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh, a Fellow of Darwin College Cambridge, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the Royal Society. Chris was a founding member of the UK AI Council, and in 2019 he was appointed to the Prime Minister\u2019s Council for Science and Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has a PhD in theoretical physics and worked for ten years on plasma physics for the fusion programme before transitioning into machine learning. Chris joined Microsoft in 1997 and was Lab Director of Microsoft Research Cambridge from 2015 until 2022 when he founded the new AI for Science team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chris is the author of the highly cited and widely adopted machine learning textbooks Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition (Oxford, 1995) and Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning (Springer, 2006). He recently published a new textbook Deep Learning: Foundations and Concepts which was recently confirmed as Springer-Nature\u2019s top selling book of both 2024 and 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chris is also a keen amateur rocketry enthusiast and works with university teams on high-altitude student rocketry projects. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Nathan Kutz<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Physics-Informed AI at Autodesk Research, London UK<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Nathan Kutz is Director of Physics-Informed AI at Autodesk Research in London UK where he is leading a team that integrates model reduction techniques with machine learning and AI.  He is on-leave from the University of Washington where he is the Boeing Professor of Applied Mathematics and Electrical and Computer Engineering and former Director of the AI Institute in Dynamic Systems.  He received the BS degree in physics and mathematics from the University of Washington in 1990 and the Phd in applied mathematics from Northwestern University in 1994. He was a postdoc in the applied and computational mathematics program at Princeton University before taking his faculty position. He has a wide range of interests, including neuroscience to fluid dynamics where he integrates machine learning with dynamical systems and control. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Steve Chien<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Technical Fellow & co-head, Artificial Intelligence Group at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Steve\u00a0Chien\u00a0is a Technical Fellow and co-head of the Artificial Intelligence Group at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology where he leads several efforts in AI\/autonomy for spacecraft.\u00a0 Dr.\u00a0Chien\u00a0has supported many external bodies including the\u00a0Defense Science Board<\/a>,\u00a0Air Force Scientific Advisory Board<\/a>, and the US Congress.\u00a0 Dr.\u00a0Chien\u00a0was a congressionally appointed member of the\u00a0National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence<\/a>\u00a0(2018-2021) and a member of the\u00a0Army Science Board<\/a>\u00a0(2022-2025). \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr.\u00a0Chien\u00a0has led the deployment of AI\/Autonomy to numerous space missions including: ASE\/EO-1, Sensorweb, Mars Exploration Rovers, ESA\u2019s Rosetta, ECOSTRESS, OCO-3, EMIT, and most recently M2020\u2019s Perseverance Rover at Mars.\u00a0\u00a0
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr.\u00a0Chien\u00a0has received numerous awards for his work in AI for space including:\u00a0 Lew Allen Award (1995), AIAA Intelligent Systems Award (2011), multiple honors in the NASA Software of the Year Competition (1999, 1999, 2005, 2011), five NASA Medals (1997, 2000, 2007, 2015, 2025), and the ISPRS Li Deren Award for achievement in Spatio-temporal Intelligence (2026).
