First of all, we thank all participants for making the first edition of SPAICE such a memorable event!
Following the conference, we are excited to announce that the official SPAICE 2024 conference proceedings have been released on Zenodo.
You can access either all papers with a small foreword in a single pdf, or download individual papers.

22/07/24: Gala dinner revealed!
We are delighted to invite you to the SPAICE Gala Dinner at Balliol College, in the heart of Oxford, on Wednesday, 18th September, between 19:00-22:00 (GMT+1).
You can buy tickets for the dinner during registration (tickets are limited to 200 participants). To inform us about your dietary requirements (also during the conference), see the official Gala dinner page for instructions.

08/07/24: Congratulations to the travel grant awardees!
We congratulate the three awardees of the ESA Academy Conference Student Sponsorship: Sergio Sánchez Hurtado (“Enhancing Solar Driver Forecasting with Multivariate Transformers”), Elisabeta-Iulia Dima (“XAMI – A Benchmark Dataset for Artefact Detection in XMM-Newton Optical Images”), and Adam Evans (“Real-Time Fuel-Optimal Guidance Using Deep Neural Networks and Differential Algebra”).

28/06/24: Paper decisions have been announced!
We are excited to announce that the outcome of the double-blind peer review process has been sent to authors.
In total, we received 154 short papers, of which 29% have been selected for oral presentations.
We have added a Program section in the webpage detailing the different parts of the conference. We’d also like to highlight the planned Unconference session, in which the participants will create and decide the program themselves!

31/05/24: Review in progress!
With over 150 submissions received, we have now commenced a double-blind review process. Authors should expect a notification by 1 July 2024. Thank you for your patience and to our wonderful scientific committee for the commitment!
13/05/24: Deadlines extended!
The deadlines for both paper and travel grant submission have been extended from May 19th to May 27th!
09/04/24: Five keynote speakers bridging AI and space!
We are honored to announce that Jürgen Schmidhuber will join us as a remote keynote speaker at SPAICE to share his vision for the future of the nascent field of AI and space!
With that, we have five confirmed keynote speakers now:

03/04/24: Funding opportunity for students to participate in SPAICE (BSc, MSc, PhD)!
We are very thankful to our colleagues at the ESA Space Academy for sponsoring up to 3 students to attend SPAICE in the frame of the ESA Academy Conference Student Sponsorship programme. If selected, the ESA Space Academy will cover the registration fee and up to 570€ in travel & accomodation costs. You can apply for sponsorship in the grant section of our webpage!
29/03/24: Two special issues on AI and space announced as part of SPAICE!
We are incredibly excited to announce two special issues on AI and space of the journals IAA Acta Astronautica and Springer Astrodynamics as part of SPAICE! The best papers of the conference will be invited to submit an extended paper (after the conference) to be included in one of the two issues. You can indicate whether you are interested in being considered for an extended paper during conference paper submission. For more information, see our updated call for papers.

18/03/24: First keynotes announced!
We are excited to announce the first four keynote speakers of SPAICE! In September, Ryan S. McClelland (NASA), Katja Hofmann (Microsoft Research Cambridge), Angela Schoellig (TUM), and Ioana Ciucă (Australian National University) will join us on stage to share their vision on AI and their latest research.

We are happy to open the call for papers of the first edition of SPAICE: the conference on “Artificial Intelligence in and for Space” organised by the European Space Agency. With the aim to bring together researchers and practitioners across disciplines and application domains, we invite everyone who is excited about the future of artificial intelligence in space to join us in this endeavour.
